The SIES (NERUL) COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCE & COMMERCE was founded in the year 1998. The South Indian Education Society (SIES) was established to promote the cause of education in Mumbai. SIES College of Commerce and Economics was established in May 1989 and was inaugurated by the then Vice President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. It has now become synonymous with excellence in education. The college that began as a single faculty college with 400 students and 7 lecturers, now offers under graduate and post graduate courses in Commerce, IT, Management, Banking and Insurance, Accounting and Finance to over 2,700 students supported by over 50 full-time and visiting faculty members. The Junior College with over 1,000 students and 18 teachers give the college the required strength to provide a complete package of quality higher education.

The SIES High School was established in 1932 by the South Indian Education Society. It is a co-educational English medium school, reputed for its high academic service, discipline and efficient management. The school is recognized by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for primary education and Government of Maharashtra (and follows the S.S.C syllabus). The institution caters to the educational needs of all students irrespective of caste, creed or religion right from the Pre-Primary level to the Secondary level.

At the newly-renamed school, 87 students - the number is not a coincidence - unveiled a life-size statue of Kalam. The NMWS-run school was recently acquired by the South Indian Education Society (SIES). Abdul Kalam was the Principal Patron of the SIES, and also a recipient of the SIES Lifetime Achievements Award. \"In his honour and memory and in acknowledgement of the significant contribution he made to ignite young minds, we have decided to rename the newly-acquired NMWS school after him,\" SIES President V Shankar said. In the traditional pioneering role that we have been taking all along to address issues concerning the people, the society initiated a shelter for the old and lend love and dignity to their residual life. SIES Seniors Home for the Aged is an expression of this commitment. A plot of land admeasuring 2850 sq. meters situated at Nerul, Navi Mumbai was developed into 52 studio apartments, along with a meditation centre, prayer hall, dispensary, temple and a recreation centre. The Seniors Home primarily looks after retired teachers of the country and others who have contributed to the cause of education. The dawn of liberalization has set in an accelerated pace of commercialization and consumerism. In the wake of economic gains, traditions and values have been consigned to bins. The collapse of the joint family system accentuated by a severe shortage of housing stock has stuck a deadly emotional blow on the elders in the sunset of their lives. Geriatry has its attendant difficulties. Loneliness and helplessness of the old has cast a stigma on the society itself. SIES has been expanding the canvas of its activities and the sweep of its influence to cover important social causes and societal obligations. The Seniors Home is an expression of that intent. The Home comprises of 36 studio apartments, bath attached, designed and furnished to provide comfort to seniors, privacy as well as access to facilities. The cost sharing structure recognizes 1/3rd of the inmates making no payment (restricted to retired teachers), 1/3rd paying running expenses (teachers earning pension) and l/3rd would pay a share of the capital cost as well as proportionate monthly running expenses. An updated library in the Home, Medical Centre and Meditation Hall are added attractions. The Adi Sankara temple inside the Home is a heavenly abode and ministers to the spiritual needs of the inmates.

Medical Laboratory Technology is the Fulcrum of Medical Science. The Programme has been designed to train fresh science graduates in the routine and modern diagnostic techniques in Medical Laboratory Technology. Candidates enrolled in the programme will be equipped to work in Ultra Modern Pathological Laboratories as well as in Conventional laboratories as Para Medicals.

The SIES Institute of Comprehensive Education was started to meet the increasing demand for Pre-Primary education for teachers. With the mushrooming of nursery schools and with the dearth of adequate training programmes to train the personnel to mould the tiny tots, it was necessary to start a suitable programme. The institute was established in June 1980. From a mere training centre, the institute has established itself as a leading institution for Pre-Primary and Early Childhood Education in the city of Mumbai.

CEMRD was a conscious decision of the SIES management to maintain its competitive edge in the field of education. In a knowledge driven society, knowledge management is the key to success. This is particularly true of an educational institution, which is a repository of knowledge, acquired and developed through various sources and having various channels to share and to communicate the knowledge base at its disposal. The objective of the CEMRD is to help improve management systems to Industries by providing relevant training to executives at all levels in the industry, government and non-government sectors to take on a leadership role in their position – individually and collectively.

The Centre for Professional and Distance Education was created in 2001 to reach out to students in our different institutions and also those in other institutions. Distance learning methods, was one of the objectives and it will become one of the main windows of information and learning when a self financing/autonomous university of SIES comes into place. The facilities for distance learning are being investigated and it shall be the endeavour of CPDE to reach out to as many students as possible globally. Virtual classrooms may also be created and interactive dialogue between the teacher and students at different locations will also be possible.
